ORIGINAL RELEASE (April 25, 2020):

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly hit-and-run accident.

On April 24, 2020, at 3:34 a.m, Richard Glorioso Jr., 27, was driving his 2015 blue Chevrolet Cruze eastbound on Trapnell Road. The victim was also walking eastbound on the north shoulder of Trapnell Road. At some point, Glorioso failed to maintain his lane and ran off the roadway to the left, striking the victim with the left side of the vehicle. The accident happened just east of Pioneer County Trail in Plant City. Glorioso fled the scene without stopping or calling 911.

Prior to the accident, Glorioso was a suspect in a burglary case that occurred in the Plant City Police Department’s jurisdiction. Plant City PD located Glorioso inside his car, with drugs and a firearm, on North Maryland Avenue at 4:39 a.m. after the department received a suspicious person call. Damage to the front left side of Glorioso’s Chevrolet Cruze was consistent with a pedestrian strike. Plant City PD arrested Glorioso on numerous charges, unrelated to the hit-and-run accident.

Meanwhile, Plant City PD requested the help of the Florida Highway Patrol to locate the victim in the hit-and-run accident. The victim’s body was found on the northside of Trapnell Road east of Turkey Creek Road. The Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the body, and next of kin was located and notified.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office assumed the investigation for the hit-and-run accident since it occurred in HCSO’s jurisdiction.

Criminal charges, as it relates to the hit-and-run accident are forthcoming, pending further investigation.

This remains an active investigation, no other details will be provided at this time.
